Are you charging it right?

People have many opinions of how to charge a smartphone. Not all these opinions are correct, and you might be overly worried about your charging for no reason. In this post, we bust few of the common myths about charging smartphones, and what is the ideal way to do it. Does it even matter that much, and should you be worried? Here is everything you need to know about this.

There is a popular myth, that you should not leave your phone plugged in all night. Now yes, there is some amount of truth to this, especially while using fast charging technology. But for the most part, the effect is not really large. Most people are through with their battery by the end of the day and would need a full charge the next day. So it is just natural to want to charge it overnight. To have the best of both worlds, you should be using a slow charger, if you were to charge your phone overnight.

Another myth which is really popular, is that you should wait for the battery to drop down to almost 0, and then charge it back to a 100%. That too is a myth, and was true for older cells, and I mean, really old. The modern lithium ion cells should in fact be charged for a shorter duration of time and for shorter top - ups. Ideally, the charging range should be between 20 to 80%. But again, realistically it may not be possible for you to have a charger at all times to keep charging only within these intervals. This was just a bit of information, if implemented, can extend the battery life, but the difference is not really significant enough to be noticed especially in the short run.

The third and possibly the most important factor, is heat. You should never keep your phone charging under the sun or in a hot car, or under a pillow at night. These are places where the phone heats up significantly, and that causes a substantial harm to the battery. Also you should not play heavy games or use resource intensive apps while the phone is charging. The phone will take considerably longer to charge and also the battery will heat up, which is not a good idea. You can continue to use lighter apps, without any hesitation.

Many people also say, that we should keep the phone on airplane mode to increase the charging speed as the battery loss is minimized. Now while there is some truth to this statement, the difference is hardly noticeable. You might miss some calls if you try to do this, and it will not be worth it. The difference in charging speed, especially now with really fast chargers, would be around a minute or two max. So it is not worth it.

So to sum it up, in a very idealistic scenario, you should charge your phone when it touches around 20-25%, and leave it to charge till it reaches 80%. If you are to charge it overnight, do not use fast charge. These two points are not really important, considering the fact that they are also not very practical. You will have to bring certain reforms in the way you use your phone to implement these. The last and most important thing, is that you should keep the phone for charging in a well ventilated area, where the phone does not get really hot.

Lastly I would say, don't really be too worried about your phone's battery. It should last you around 2 years without significant problems, but after that if you plan on keeping your phone, you might want to get the battery changed. Always use the charger provided in the box along with the phone, or a third party one which is equally good quality.

The Future of the Chinese Smartphone Market

With the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic taking center-stage, things are not exactly smooth in the tech space too. Many countries are citing "poor Coronavirus transparency" as their reason to drop Chinese products as their vendors, or to stop doing business with them. Here is what we think the future holds for China. Recently UK decided to drop Huawei as their 5G vendor, and expressed a strong wish to cut all ties with the Chinese tech giant, in the foreseeable future. This doesn't come as a surprise, as people around us are mentioning the same thing, to try to reduce their reliance on Chinese products. But it really is easier said than done. Take the smartphone industry for instance. In India, the market share of Chinese smartphones is well above 65% ( source ). These phones primarily target the budget and mid-range sections of the market. India, being a huge market for the budget smartphones, is heavily dependent on these brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Rea...
