OnePlus 8… What went wrong?

Everywhere you look, the posts are all about the oneplus 8 Pro. You see ads, product reviews, comparison videos, testing, everything for the OnePlus 8 pro, while you really need to dig deeper to find something substantial about the OnePlus 8. Why isn't much emphasis given towards this device? Here is why the tech community is disappointed in oneplus…

When the company started off, a oneplus device was supposed to be a flagship killer. That is what made the tech community respect the company so much. It was able to provide value at unbelievable prices. As the company grew it's ambitions also grew with it. Now with the oneplus 8 Pro they are totally in the flagship territory charging $900 for their top tier device. And of course being a successful company we cannot really blame them for trying to make their mark in the industry. The OnePlus 8 pro is truly a fantastic device, and even at $900, it still is one of the cheapest flagships out there, hardly compromising on quality. In terms of performance for the given price, especially in India, this time it has truly beaten even the beast, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Check out our comparison here.

Until last year OnePlus used to have a device besides their pro model, which compromised a little but manage to offer all the major requirements at their trademark low prices. But this time the oneplus 8 starts at Rs 42,000 in India. Now that is not typical OnePlus, is it? The OnePlus 7T was launched at a starting price of Rs38,000 in India. But currently, with the announcement of the OnePlus 8, the 7T is available for Rs. 35,000. But wait, when the 8 hits the market, the prices of the 7T may drop even further.

This begs the question, what is different in the oneplus 8 than the oneplus 7T, which justifies the significantly different price points at this point? The answer is surprisingly not that much. You get the same 90 Hz super amoled 1080p panel as the 7t, although it has a punch hole camera this time. We get the same software experience with oxygen OS on top of Android 10. Yes there is a bigger battery, and the Snapdragon 865 with its 5g capabilities is surely a good improvement. But realistically, 5G is a thing of the future, at least for India, and the battery life of the 7T is pretty good.

The cameras in my opinion have taken a hit for the worse. Although the oneplus 8 has a better primary camera it misses out on the telephoto lens in exchange for a dedicated macro lens. Whereas the 7t had a primary camera along with wide angle and telephoto lenses, with a macro mode built into the wide angle lens. Why they would downgrade their setup is something I fail to understand.

The phone still does not offer ip68 water resistance nor does it give us wireless charging like the oneplus 8 Pro.

Add to this fact that the oneplus 7t will now be available at lower prices. All of this makes the oneplus 7t still a better buy then the oneplus 8.

In my opinion the improvements in the oneplus 8 are just not substantial enough that the considerably high price can be justified. The oneplus 7t still remains their most compelling offer and now even more so with the reduced prices.
This is why we feel that the OnePlus 8 was overshadowed by its older brother, the 8 pro, because unlike the 8 pro, which brings a lot new to the table, the 8 hardly is an upgrade, but at a significantly higher price.

Realme... A formidable player?

All of us know that Realme has been making some amazing smartphones at some really affordable prices. Their phones have really been the buzz around town, and this growth has boomed quite recently. Here we take a look at this company, and why Realme might be the next big brand to watch out for. A sub-brand of Oppo, Realme started off by launching its first phone, the Realme 1, as recently as May 2018. Instantly it became a rage, and the sales numbers of the company even in its recent years were incredible. The company was started as a rival to the vastly popular and the budget king - Xiaomi. The idea was simple, to offer everything that Xiaomi did, and more at a price point which was just as affordable. The phone was instantly a success. They managed to provide a particularly great camera experience, far better than the ones offered by the rival companies in this segment. This appealed to the young crowd, the main target of this budget category, and the company saw great profits by

Motorola One Fusion Plus ... They are back!

In the past, Motorola had been manufacturing some amazing smartphones in the budget and mid range market, in the range of Rs 15,000 -17,000. After the G6 though, things took a turn downwards for the company. The phones they made were not nearly as good as they used to, and the competition was offering much better options. They launched some flagship smartphones like the Moto Razr and the Moto Edge Plus. But they were not huge success stories for the company too. However, the new Moto One Fusion Plus seems to check all the boxes. Coming in at Rs.17,000, the phone is available at a very good price and might be just the thing the company has been looking for to be back in the budget game. Here is an overview of the phone and our thoughts on it. Display : The Motorola One Fusion Plus comes with a 6.5 inch IPS LCD FHD+ display with a 60Hz refresh rate. The best part about this display is that it is a full view, notch-less design. They are able to achieve this by a pop up front camera, whic
