The iPhone SE... Apple, done right.

Its no news that Apple has announced the brand new iPhone SE. This is a phone which gives you most of the bells and whistles of a fancy, expensive iPhone, all at a very compelling price point. Starting at around Rs. 42,000 , here is why this is an excellent move by the company, especially in a market like India.

More for less: It is no surprise that people, in general, love getting more for less. The iPhone SE, does just that. It brings you, the power of the iPhone 11 pro, in a small 4.7 inch display smartphone. It houses the A13 bionic chipset, which is the most powerful processor on any mobile on the planet. This cruises through every game, every application, anything you want thrown at the phone, the phone can churn out brilliant performance, with ease.
Cameras: At the mid-range segment, people are limited by the number of options they have in terms of camera specifications. The existing market is dominated by android at this price, and besides the pixel 3A, no other phone, has quite the best flagship grade camera yet. Apple is trying to change that. The iPhone SE, houses the same primary camera as the 11 pro, which calls for amazing shots, and with features like portrait lighting, the level of photography achieved here would be beyond fantastic. Not to mention that Apple is the market leader in video capabilities, and a similar performance is to be expected in the SE.
Touch Id: Believe it or not, there was actually a large group of people who were disappointed with the removal of touch id from the iPhone X. They still miss it to a great deal, and the iPhone SE might just be the phone for them. The revival of touch id holds a sentimental value in the Apple community, and we may see people cherishing the return.
It’s Apple: Apple products still hold a place of class in the community. Many people are driven towards the Apple logo, cause it oozes premium looks and is a status symbol to this date. With the price now being affordable at 42,000 we should expect to see a lot of people wanting this product because of the logo at the back. A similar trend was noticed with the iPhone X R, with it being the most sold iPhone of that time, because of its relatively low price. With even lower prices, we may expect to see this effect on a larger scale.

But not everything is nice and easy for Apple. The SE, is surely an amazing phone, with a lot to offer, but there are a couple of things which one needs to keep in mind.

The small form factor, which might be comfortable, is surely a bit of an inconvenience at times. Say while you get some work done on your phone, or wish to watch a video or scroll through websites, it is definitely more convenient to have a larger screen to watch content. Multi-tasking becomes easier and overall, it is an added advantage, especially for a power user. So this one handed and super comfortable small design does have its own drawbacks which must be noted.

Another important point, again on similar lines, is that though this design is a nice blast from the past, that is not necessarily a good thing. The design does look fairly outdated now, with those huge bezels, and the presence of a front mounted fingerprint scanner.

The SE is still a great phone, for all the reasons mentioned above and more, but yes it is important to keep in mind that it is still maybe not the best phone out there at this price. The OnePlus 8 does give some decent competition. Stay tuned for our thoughts on the OnePlus 8 vs the iPhone SE 2020.
These of-course are my thoughts and speculations on the device, only the final sales figures can tell whether or not this product was indeed a brilliant move by the company.

The Future of the Chinese Smartphone Market

With the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic taking center-stage, things are not exactly smooth in the tech space too. Many countries are citing "poor Coronavirus transparency" as their reason to drop Chinese products as their vendors, or to stop doing business with them. Here is what we think the future holds for China. Recently UK decided to drop Huawei as their 5G vendor, and expressed a strong wish to cut all ties with the Chinese tech giant, in the foreseeable future. This doesn't come as a surprise, as people around us are mentioning the same thing, to try to reduce their reliance on Chinese products. But it really is easier said than done. Take the smartphone industry for instance. In India, the market share of Chinese smartphones is well above 65% ( source ). These phones primarily target the budget and mid-range sections of the market. India, being a huge market for the budget smartphones, is heavily dependent on these brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Rea...

Motorola One Fusion Plus ... They are back!

In the past, Motorola had been manufacturing some amazing smartphones in the budget and mid range market, in the range of Rs 15,000 -17,000. After the G6 though, things took a turn downwards for the company. The phones they made were not nearly as good as they used to, and the competition was offering much better options. They launched some flagship smartphones like the Moto Razr and the Moto Edge Plus. But they were not huge success stories for the company too. However, the new Moto One Fusion Plus seems to check all the boxes. Coming in at Rs.17,000, the phone is available at a very good price and might be just the thing the company has been looking for to be back in the budget game. Here is an overview of the phone and our thoughts on it. Display : The Motorola One Fusion Plus comes with a 6.5 inch IPS LCD FHD+ display with a 60Hz refresh rate. The best part about this display is that it is a full view, notch-less design. They are able to achieve this by a pop up front camera, whic...
